Daniel Tiger Quote Wall Hanger

Hey y’all! It’s Ginger from Gingerly Made again. I am soooo happy for the warmer weather! It’s like we’ve come out of hibernation. We have been in busy mode getting stuff done inside and out of the house. This month I want to share a little project we’ve done in our kid’s room to (hopefully) help deal with the mess.

My kids don’t seem to know what to do with their clothes after they are done wearing them. So to help, at least with some of it, I have created this wall hanger with Daniel Tiger quote in the kids room as a place to hang bathrobes and pajamas.

I know it won’t solve the entire clothes on the floor problem. But if we can keep the bathrobes and pajamas off the floor – it’s a start. Then the next night when it’s time for their bath, they can take their robe with them to the bathroom. When they are done, the robe can easily be hung up again and used the next night. In the mornings, they can hang up their pajamas and then in the evening, find them again neatly hung in place. And if you’re wondering, yes, my kids wear the same pajamas more than one night in a row before washing. They don’t really get dirty while you’re sleeping in them and helps me have less laundry.

To make the hanger, I simply used a piece of 1×4 that was 2 feet long and some pretty knobs I found at Home Depot.

I spray painted my board Robin’s Egg Blue and drilled 4 holes equally spaced. Then added the knobs.

Then hung in up with a simple claw hook from a picture hanging kit.

But it looked lonely up on the wall all by itself. So, I thought about what to add above it. A cute framed picture? A quote? What?

My kiddos LOVE Daniel Tiger and sing the songs from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood about everyday things all the time. One of the songs is the clean up song.

Clean up, pick up, put away.
Clean up; everyday
-Daniel Tiger

And yes, they sing it when it’s clean up time. Enough so that I have learned to just start singing it and picking up. Many times they will start picking up too with out any other prompting. (I need to remember to do that more often.)

I think most parents try to have some sort of system in place to deal with daily messes and teach their kids to be responsible for their own stuff. I’ve tried chore charts and reward systems. Those are great, but they depend on me remembering to offer rewards and directing them to the chore chart. And well… I forget after a couple of weeks. What works best for me is simply having plenty places for them to put their things. I still have to remind them to put their things away. But now it’s just that. Not that AND remembering to give them a sticker on a chart. Seriously! I have enough to remember to do without adding giving my kids stickers for every. little. thing.

I love this little spot in their room. It’s pretty and functional. Now to go remind them to use it.
