#Kaytips : London Life

Hey everyone, this is Fiona! It’s been a while. These past few months have been quite intense, a lot of changes and new adventures, new challenges.. A lot of planes, of packing and un-packing and the chance we had to meet a lot of you guys during our travels. I wanted to use the space I have the chance to have on Kayture to thank you all for the constant support, the sweet words, your messages on twitter or instagram, your letters and gifts. I feel really lucky to have the chance to meet you in person, it’s definitely the best part of all this. So.. well, thank you. Thank you so much for the love.

But let’s talk fish and chips, we were in the UK last may, invited by the University of Oxford to hold a speech which was a fulfilling and unreal experience. I know that some of you followed it live on Periscope (what an awesome app by the way), then James and Kristina flew to Japan for like, 48 hours and I decided to stay in London, one of my favorite cities, to catch up with some of my friends that live there. There’s a very specific thing that my friends and I are sharing, we’re big foodies. Like, we have an unconditional love for food that is beyond. So we’re always on the hunt for new places and I have to say, they made me discover awesome spots that I can’t wait to share with you. Let’s do this!

Straight when I arrived from Oxford, I went to brunch to Bluebird in Chelsea (350 King’s Rd) it was super sunny and we had the chance to find a cosy table on the terrace, I heard it’s usually super packed (as most of the cool places in London, right) another great place for brunch in Chelsea is Ivy Garden (197 King’s Rd). An amazing place for breakfast is Granger & Co (175 Westbourne Grove) it’s owned by Australians, that’s all I can say (I love Australians) oh, and their eggs-avocado are to die for. Let’s talk about Sketch (9 Conduit Street), you HAVE to go, it’s this totally crazy place, the main restaurant is all about pink and vintage designs, music is very experimental, food is amazing (and a little expensive) and the bathroom are eggs. Don’t ask, just go, thank me later. My friend Cecilia brought me to Duck & Waffle (The Heron Tower, 110 Bishopsgate) , do they actually serve duck & waffle? yes. Together? yes. It’s situated on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower which make them the highest restaurant in the UK. The view is insane and wait for it, they’re open 24/7. After club munchies at 4 am? I feel you. Borough Market is the place to keep in mind if you’re talking the fish tacos/soy froyo language, don’t forget to check the opening times. I’m a big fan of Soho House in general and they have this special place called the Eggbreak (30 Uxbridge St) restaurant where all the menu is based on eggs. On the very healthy side, The Good Life Eatery (59 Sloane Avenue) is the place to go. They have green juices, avocado on toast and very a instagramable but first and foremost good menu. For dinner, Picture (110 Great Portland St) a neighborhood restaurant with amazing food and great service, yet very casual. Lovely.

I had the chance to stay at the London EDITION hotel, my favorite boutique hotel in Soho. I’m completely obsessed with their interior design, they managed to respect the building’s beautiful old ceiling yet elevate the whole interior with gorgeous new modern pieces. Their restaurant is stunning and the rooms are “woody” with a nordic inspiration, the beds are so comfy and their bloody mary is beyond, definitely a must go, even to have a drink or just for lunch. (10 Berners Street)

Of course if it’s your first time in London, I totally recommend trying all the London Eye/Big Ben/Touristy things that you really should do for the sake of it. Been there, done that. But once you’re done with it, take a walk at Regents Park, one of London’s prettiest park, full of students. For the 5 o’clock (or wine o’clock, or just afterwork) try The Crown and Shuttle (226 Shoreditch High Street), it’s a very laid-back biergarden in Shoreditch, drinks are cheap and the vibe is good. There’s also a couple of very good rooftops as Roofnic (535 Oxford Street), where the music is dope and my friend Killian is obsessed with their pineapple mojito. For a very instagramable view (if it’s not too grey) try the Vista Rooftop at the Trafalgar (2 Spring Gardens) , it’s often very busy and the entrance costs 5 pounds, so you know… If you’re a modern art lover, Tate Museum will definitely be a highlight. Also, you have to try an afternoon tea for example at The Tea Rooms (153-155 Stoke Newington Church Street) (take their raspberry jam if you go)
