Paper Bag Pants

Let’s just stop and talk about my new pants for a moment. I made these babies last week after finding 5m of this tweed fabric in the opshop for a crazy $10. Thank you baby cheeses. Hubby had a pair of golf pants made and I made these with the leftover. I believe they’re called paper bag pants? Whatever they’re called they’re my new favourite thing in my wardrobe. I need a pair in every colour now. My love affair for this type of pant stems from the 80′s- in particular, Culture Club/Sue Clowes, Bananarama, Vivienne Westwood blah blah blah. I spotted Saskia De Braw wearing a pair and it pretty much cemented the idea of making myself a pair not before self-doubt set in though; she’s Saskia, she can wear anything. Can I pull this off?

These were self drafted, a relatively easy make, just a big-man pant really, the top of the pants were cut higher than usual. I placed in a zip which is completely useless but a necessity to complete a professional looking pant— I think anyway. I lined the top half with black cotton and placed a channel in for the tie to travel through, sewed on the carriers for an additional tie to belt up which I can replace with rope if I want. You know the look I’m talking about.

Lovely deep pockets to sink my hands into and the welt pockets on the rear!! well, I had to make three pairs of pants for a customer last week and I was really chuffed with the welt pockets on all of them. I think it’s my new favourite thing to sew, they just look so spiffy, a real professional finish. I’m over the moon with how these turned out. Definitely the perfect fabric for this shape of pant.

The suspenders are from Ebay, they had to be these ones not the clip-ons. They’re perfect. I just needed to sew on some little buttons for them to attach too then I was done.

So what do you think? I think they’d be worth some serious dollars out there in retail world. I seriously love them. ***If you have similar fabric and want a pair you should totally get in touch with me I’d be happy to make you a pair. As long as we are never in the same room as one another I don’t care how many pairs I need to make.

Thank you for your lovely and encouraging comments on my daughters Mickey Mouse outfit. so, so pleased you liked it.

Happy Days indeed.
