How to Throw a Memorial Day Brunch

Memorial Day is here, and we’re celebrating in style! We’ve been looking forward to this long weekend, and can’t wait to soak up our extra time in the sun. How will we be spending our time? Brunching, of course! And with a few simple, summery details thrown in, we’ll show you how to make your brunch the best event of the weekend.

When it comes to setting the table for your brunch, remember to keep it simple. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed by elaborate decorations if a pared-back look comes across just as elegant. We found a gorgeous, rustic picnic table painted in pretty pastel stripes and chose a table setting that highlighted this effortlessly classic look. If you’re looking for a little something extra, we suggest adding a table runner in a subtle pattern or simple stripes. And these white and chambray napkins are made for sunny days and summertime, don’t you think?

One staple that every great brunch needs is fresh flowers. We went with a neutral mix of hydrangeas, with a subtle touch of blue to complement our adorable picnic table, and threw in some sprigs of greenery for a more organic look. A couple petite bud vases and little floral details at each setting gave our brunch the finishing touch! (Hint: for pre-made floral bouquets that have a little wilder look, our favorite stop is Central Market.)

And nothing tops off a summertime brunch like a fruity and festive cocktail. This cranberry-lemon spritzer was too good, we just had to share. Follow our recipe below, or substitute with other favorite mixers to make it your own!

What you’ll need:

1 bottle of cranberry juice cocktail, chilled (64 oz)

1 bottle of lemonade, chilled (64 oz)

1 bottle ginger ale, chilled (2 liter)

1 bottle vodka, optional (750 mL)

(For a little added fun, throw in 1/2 cup of raspberries and some fresh lemon slices for garnish!)

To make, first stir together the cocktail and lemonade in your pitcher. Then slowly pour in the ginger ale, and vodka if you choose. Add ice and stir in. Then garnish with the raspberries and lemon slices, and your festive drink is ready to serve!
