scenes from christmas

christmas seemed to breeze by this year as we just barely recovered from an awful cold that's been going around. the kids were sick and then of course we caught it and that meant not much was done around here the past few weeks. thankfully, we were feeling better just in time to wrap up the christmas shopping and enjoy a handful of our favorite traditions (like visiting curly the camel and baking gingerbread cookies).
we try to keep gifts simple every year and limit just a couple things for each kid, but this year i was running behind and didn't realize until christmas eve that i'd only bought henry one gift (a book about earth). i felt really bad, especially because he had the cutest little christmas list and said he wanted a wooden nativity set and tortillas (to make his favorite quesadillas. he is so funny). but being the incredibly sweet boy that he is, he didn't even seem to notice that he only had one present to open. he ran over and have us hugs and kisses and said "thanks, i love you guys". it's moments like those that just melt my heart and confirm that we are doing something right in the choices we make in raising them. which is so important because so much of the time you're just kind of guessing and hoping you're do a good job! seeing them be so thankful and giving is such a sweet reward.
this weekend we plan on doing lots of movie watching and resting up to get these kids 100% healthy again. then, i think we will take down our christmas decorations and move our little tree outside where it's nice and cool.
