YA Review: Learning to Live

Learning to Live (Infinite Love #1) By: Kira Adams E-book, 214 pages Published January 11, 2015

Ciera Nelson wants what any other outcast wants, invisibility. If she can just make it through the rest of her year with minor incidents and a head held low she will be able to put the hell hole they call school in her rearview. Unfortunately, life has different plans for her.
Topher Carlson is one of the biggest jocks on campus. All the guys want to be him, all the girls want to claim him. When secrets are uncovered, Topher’s life spins wildly out of control.
They are far from friends when the school year begins, but each will impact the other’s life in ways they never dreamed possible. Can Ciera help Topher realize that popularity and status mean nothing in the real world? Can Topher help Ciera learn the true meaning of living?
Sometimes you have to let go to really live. Sometimes being alive means taking risks.

Damn it, Adams.

This book...

So the story starts off with one of the main characters, Topher, and his oh-so-popular girlfriend. We learn a bit about him, and then things switch up and we meet and learn more about the other main character, Ciera.

The author did a really good job in setting everything up. Topher is your typical jock, but Adams REALLY elevates her character's characteristics (ha. ha.) and Topher REALLY is your typical jock who is a JERK. It's not like some stories where the jock immediately is awe-struck by the outsider girl and is suddenly nice to her. It's a real-life scenario, meaning you won't find any fairytale-like, magical miracles or of the sort.

Ciera's struggles are great. They are ones that not many can handle, but she does it all. Her valor propels her onward and saves her from the destruction that the people and things around her try to create. And when she and Topher start to encounter each other more often...
This is a story of first love, growth, and heartbreak. Through this story Adams will take you on a journey that is important for everyone to go on. She made me cry and rejoice throughout the book, and if I could read this story again for the first time, I totally would!
