A beautiful sight, we were happy that night...

Before I fall too behind, I wanted to share some scenes from one of our last days in Utah- just after Christmas
when my family spent a day and a night at our grandparents' cabin in Midway. It had just snowed all day, and there
is something extra special about Midway snow. Maybe it's the altitude since it's a little mountain town, maybe it's
just the way cleaner air, but the snow here always sparkles, and it's cold enough that the trees stay encrusted in
beautiful layers of ice crystals, snowflakes, and morning frost all winter. It all sparkles and glints in the sunlight
and it's the prettiest winter scene I've ever seen. I look forward to it every year. Winter in Midway is one of my very
favourite things.

It was so nice to have a roaring fire going in the grate that night. The main room felt so cozy. We watched the
Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special and then made fondue for dinner. Fondue has always been special for our
family since it reminds us of our days in Switzerland. Midway was settled by Swiss immigrants, and the town has
a lot of Swiss influence in the architecture, local aesthetic, and foods. It felt so perfect to be eating fondue
together as a family in our cozy cabin on a winter's night overlooking Interlaken valley, named after an area in
the German part of Switzerland that lies between two lakes.

Again, the time went by way too quickly. The Holidays are so much more tough when the whole family is grown up,
and everyone has their own work obligations, school schedules, assignment deadlines, significant others to hang
out with, in-law families to schedule time with too, traveling, jet lag, ET CETERA. I'm so glad we were able to
all spend some time here even if it was very short-lived. I already have wonderful memories and can't wait for
next December!
