WDW Marathon 2018 – Sunday (& Monday)

Nicki found me after the race. We boarded the bus together. It turns out Robert and Kathleen were only a bus behind us. Once we got back to the room, I let Nicki shower first and propped my legs up on the wall to drain. Once Nicki was out, Robert and Kathleen had returned and Kathleen wanted a shower. Finally, it was my turn. I took all the pins out of my hair and got a selfie of the crazy look.

Then I showered and change into my Panthers shirt. There was a playoff game that afternoon. Prior to our trip, we tried to get into ESPN on the Boardwalk to watch the game, but it was all booked up. So, we had a reservation at Splitsville. They have tons of TVs although they don’t play the sound for any. Once I was ready, we called a Lyft since we didn’t want to walk any further than we had to. I got a great picture of the entrance to our resort on the way.

Soon, we arrived in Disney Springs. Our driver wasn’t sure where to let us out, so we ended up with a longer walk than necessary but still less than the buses. There were a lot of people in the area and the Christmas trees were still up. We had thoughts of doing the trail after dinner and the game. Soon, we got to Splitsville.

We made sure to request a table with a good view of the game. We ended up being on the ground floor by a couple bowling lanes and a bar area. By this point, I was starving. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and a Coke Zero and water. Nicki doesn’t like pickles and I said something about wanting her pickles, so I ended up with a dish of pickles on my plate.

Although we had a few issues with the TV in front of us, talking to the staff resolved them all quickly. We did have to get up and go to the main bar to find someone to fix them once. Ultimately, the Panthers lost. Nicki and I were so tired and sore, we decided against the Christmas tree trail and joined the others for a Lyft back to the resort. I did take some pictures of the area by our room since it was our last night.

Then we went up and I know I got ready and fell asleep pretty quickly. The next morning, we had early flights to get back. I was going straight to work. We didn’t want to have to be at the airport before it opened, so we opted to get a Lyft instead of the Magical Express. The driver was great and we were at the airport with plenty of time. I can’t remember much of the trip now, so it must have been uneventful. In no time, I was in Charlotte waiting for my bag. Once it arrived, I caught the shuttle to Park N Go and retrieved my car. I went straight into my office and started my workday.

Overall, this was a good, albeit short, trip. I seriously doubt I’ll be back for marathon weekend anytime soon. Marathons are just a touch too long for my liking. I’ll stick to my half marathons. On another note, I also determined I am not a value resort kind of person. I like my resort to be an escape from the hustle and bustle of the parks. This resort (and I presume all value resorts) was not. It brings the chaos of the parks back with it. I know I will be back to this resort for Dark Side since I’m trying to cut costs. It will just not be my first choice in the future.
