Fabulous Room Friday 09.25.15

As soon as I saw my friend, Benjamin Dhong’s beautiful Napa kitchen on the cover of the October issue of House Beautiful, I knew that it would be this week’s “Fabulous Room”. Ben has a great talent for creating warm, masculine environments in the prettiest palettes. The fact that the home is in my beloved wine country just makes it all the better. What was once a 1980s builder home without any distinguishing architectural details has become a sophisticated weekend retreat thanks to Ben’s discerning eye. It is inspiring to see that in spite of how a space starts out, with the right designer and the proper vision, just about any place can be turned into a beautiful environment.

The kitchen is my favorite space in the house. It was originally three separate rooms, but Ben had his architect combine them into one long room spanning thirty feet. The kitchen is in the center, with its stunning waterfall marble island and 19th century French apothecary case in place of traditional cabinetry. Flanking the kitchen are a dining room (pictured above) and breakfast room (pictured below). I love the chic mix of styles, periods, especially the touch of chinoiserie.

Have a wonderful weekend!
