A fall Leini Dress – Named Patterns

I’m used to dressing in layers in autumn. For instance, I often use short dresses under a long cardigan. I basically prefer loose sleeveless dresses with a flowing cut that I can also wear without a sweater, if the weather is fine and quite warm.

I right away thought that Named Patterns Leini Dress was a perfect pattern for the kind of garment I wanted. It has flowing lines that highlight waist and it hasn’t got zippers or buttons (and I love it ). I decided to make it in a beautiful 70′ vintage viscose that Paola, an ex-colleague of my mom, gave me. I lined the bodice up with a black silk.

Before cutting the fabric, I checked finished measurements up and I chose a smaller size (36 instead of 38). The finished measurements of 38 seemed to be too big for my body. I think I made the right choice because the bodice is perfect (neither too tight nor too large!). To be completely sure I sewed a bodice’s muslin up in a hurry and I checked if everything was ok.

I shortened the armhole by 1 cm (for this kind of dress I prefer it bigger) and the skirt by 15 cm. Seen that I made it with vintage pattern fabric I tried to modernise the garment in order to not look old-fashioned. If I sew a spring/summer version up in the next months I think I’ll lengthen the skirt a bit.

Instead I found it a little bit difficult to line the bodice but I made it in the end.

Et voilà! Here I am with my perfect dress for this autumn…
