DIY: Dream Catcher Decor

Dear LC Readers,

It’s the ladies of Skinny Fat Girl Diary here again! Spring has sprung—peonies are in full bloom, the air is sweet, and festival fashion is here. Who’s not a fan of fringe, embroidery and ankle booties? Sadly, we weren’t able to trek out to the desert and indulge in the Coachella activities this year. So, we are bringing desert chic to us with these handmade dream catchers.

Dream catchers are the perfect way to spruce up your room, bathroom or even hang on your car’s rearview mirror to get in the festival spirit. Some say dream catchers catch negative energy. We are totally down for any décor that keeps the spring vibe positive!

Here’s what you need:

  • Cross stitching hoops
  • Raffia
  • Hemp
  • Ribbon
  • Feathers
  • Needle and thread
  • Doilies
  • Beads

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the cross stitching hoops with hemp and raffia.
  2. Using a needle and thread, secure the doilies in the center of the hoops. You typically need about 6-8” of thread to keep the doilies in place.
  3. Cut long strands of ribbon, and knot them at the bottom of the hoop (where the tightening fastening is). You can tie as many or as little as you want. Cut them in different sizes and use different materials to add texture.
  4. Lastly, add beads and feathers to your own heart’s content. Add as many as you want to really bring the desert chic to life.

Are you going to give our DIY a try?

We hope you enjoy the desert vibes, spring flowers, and all that this new season has to offer!

XO
