CHIESETTA DI SAN ROCCO

Chiesetta di San Rocco. Buongiorno a tutti! Oggi è un nuovo giovedì di sole e ne approfittiamo per raccontarvi una delle storie interessanti che caratterizzano le montagne della Valgerola. Come avrete intuito dalle prime foto, siamo giunti fino alla Chiesetta di San Rocco, costruita nel lontano 1631. San Rocco fu il pellegrino per antonomasia: nato a Montpellier, in Francia, nel 1300 partì alla volta di Roma, orfano e non ancora ventenne, in pellegrinaggio verso la sepoltura degli Apostoli. In quegli anni, contrasse la peste, epidemia che stava decimando le popolazioni europee, nel dare assistenza ai poveri e ai malati.
La leggenda narra che, una volta contratto il morbo, si isolò sulle rive del Po nei pressi di Piacenza, per non contagiare nessuno, e fu qui che si dissetò con le acque di una pozzanghera e un cane randagio lo nutrì portando lui del pane raffermo. Un'immagine divenuta iconica in tutte le rappresentazioni artistiche del Santo.
Durante l'escursione, abbiamo avuto la fortuna di incontrare Revenge, un tenero cucciolo di Rottweiler, mentre al calar del sole abbiamo assistito alla produzione di formaggio locale: un'esperienza entusiasmante, anche perché vi assicuro che la ricotta calda appena prodotta ha un gusto unico!

San Rocco Little Church. Good morning everybody! The sun's shining this Thursday, so we want to tell you about one of the interesting stories that characterize the Valgerola mountains. As you may guess from the first pictures, we arrived at San Rocco Little Church that was built in far 1631. St. Rocco was the utmost pilgrim. He was born in Montpellier (France) in the 14th century and he left his hometown to reach Rome and visit the Apostols' burial. He contracted the terrible plague which was decimated European people during those years, in the selfless attempt to heal the poor and the sick peole. Its legend narrates that he went to the Po shores, near Piacenza city, not to infect anybody and he lived driking water from puddles and eating stale bread brought by a dog. This particular animal became an iconic figure in every picture representing St. Rocco. During our hike, we were enough lucky to meet Revenge, a Rottweiler dog puppy, and then we assisted also to fresh local cheese production. A thrilling experience, because hot homemade ricotta has a unique taste!
