Bobbi Brown Launches Eyewear Collection in the UK

I am ridiculously short-sighted, so myopic that I get a free sight test voucher from the government. To be honest, it blows not being able to see your glasses in the morning, not even when they have been carefully places on your bedside table, a mere arm reach away.

The only thing that makes being as blind as a bat bearable is the possibility of working a good pair of spectacles, by which I mean anything that doesn’t a) resemble the pink NHS granny specs I wore aged seven or b) scream FUN or INTERESTING. I do not need ‘amusing’ arms or blingy logos. I just want big black media specs.

You have no idea how hard it is to find these outside of lovely Oliver Peoples or Cutler & Gross. My current pair are Polo Ralph Lauren Mens – the women’s were way too European fashion editor for my liking.

So colour me happy, after a delightful morning in Liberty (no relation whatsoever), hanging out with the Dachshund-loving US and UK Bobbi Brown teams, as they launched their eyewear into the UK.

Bobbi Brown is the first makeup artist with a signature line of eyewear – when you think about it though, it makes complete sense…make up artists know automatically how to frame a face, and the raison d’etre of this line is to teach women how to select frames that enhance their natural beauty and complement their skin tones and personal style. All the Bobbi Brown sunglasses and optical frames are offered within a flattering colour palette, studied to match the natural colours of skin, eyes, and hair.

Bobbi’s tips for choosing a frame are:

Nude/blush colours: brighten the face, just like blusher
Neutral colours: Compliment the skin tone creating a bare look
Tonal colours: balance the skin tone with a soft contrast
Contrast colours: strengthen and heighten the face and lips

I love the Tara frames I’m wearing above – borrowed briefly from Hannah Martin, Bobbi Brown’s Pro Artist, who made me up in a look designed to work behind corrective lenses. Also much love for the Jenna lip colour.

The Bobbi Brown Eyewear collection, produced and distributed by Safilo Group, will be available from April 2015 exclusively at Liberty, followed by selected department stores and optical chains from May 2015.
