Conquering My Son’s Closet: Toy Organization

Thank you to Wayfair for helping me get my son’s closet under control by supplying these things to aid in toy organization.

Last year was focused on us moving and adjusting to our new home. This year I’m trying to focus more on getting us organized. I decided to start first in my son’s room. I have been searching for ideas to use to help me conquer the toy clutter, in fact I even put together this collection of Unique Toy Storage Ideas for Growing Up Gabel.

I’m embarrassed to show you this closet piled with toys, but toys are where we were really needing help. Let me tell you there were even more toys on the loose in his room! I was desperately needing a place to store the legos, cars, blocks, play food, art supplies… you get the idea.

I started by collecting some of the toys that he plays with less or needs a little supervision with when he was playing. I found these Heavy Duty Plastic Latch Totes with Lids – heavy duty is important with little boys – that would be perfect for storing those items in the top of his closet.

I know a lot of people would probably have run a second rod in the closet, but my son doesn’t have that many clothes that need to be hung. Toys are a much bigger issue, so I decided to use the bottom for storing toys. I decided to use one large tote as a catch all for the big toys and this 3- drawer storage unit for smaller toys. It is actually supposed to be a clothes hamper, but I think the drawers are the perfect size for holding and separating the variety of toys we have.

I think the closet looks much better, now that some of the toys have a specific spot. I mean it looks as good as a little boy’s closet can. I actually purchased two of the 3-drawer storage units. I planned to use both in his closet, but I decided to use it as a little nightstand for my son. He just got a little alarm clock for Christmas and was needing a place to put it. He loves it! He puts his special toys in his nightstand drawer and his library books that we read at bedtime.

I love Wayfair’s options for organizing. I’m kind of obsessed with totes right now, I just seem to need a lot of them as I’m organizing. I love that I was able to order the perfect size for the project and have them delivered to my door.

As he grows I’m sure I will be changing the closet around more. Below are a few things that I can see us purchasing in the future to add more shelves and organization to a closet.

Do you have any tips for organizing your kid’s closet or toys?
