DIY Cookie Party Favors

As brides and party hosts begin their event planning, recent trends suggest a desire to avoid pre-made or traditional ideas. From favors and decor to color schemes and venue locations, being unique, creative, and a little crafty is a trend we hope is here to stay. Inspired by those creative DIY trailblazers we wanted to create a simple, but adorable DIY cookie party favors that would be a unique party favor that guests would love, while also being easy enough for anyone to make.

To begin the project you’ll need just 4 materials to get started: Goodie bags (we recommend paper!), straws, ribbon, and mason jars.

For our project we opted for a paper straw and our coated paper goodie bag in a fun and beautiful baby blue trellis pattern. To pair with the colors we chose an organdy ribbon in turquoise, and decided on 16 oz. mason jars as our ideal size.

To get started fill your goodie bags with cookies of your choice, then fold over the top of the bag. In one of the top corners pierce the goodie bag through both layers, the bag and the top part that was folded over.

Next, thread your ribbon through the hole. Place the straw against the front of the goodie bag, just above the ribbon hole. Secure the straw by pulling the ribbon up and across it, and then twisting the ribbon together behind the goodie bag.

Next we tied the ribbon around the mason jar, keeping the ribbon tight just beneath the lip of the jar. Tie the ribbon in a simple knot or bow, and you’ll have secured your cookie bag and straw to the jar. We made small chevron cut-outs in the ends of our ribbon, but you could also curl the ribbon for a different look.

When you’re guests are arriving simply fill the mason jars with your favorite milk flavor! Make sure to keep these in the fridge if you’re giving them away as departing gifts, or if your guests won’t be consuming them right away. You could also easily pre-fill mason jars and store them in the fridge, then tie the bags and straws on when you’re ready.

While we liked the simplistic and easy to execute nature of this project, you could bring additional flair to the party favors by decorating the mason jars with extra ribbon or by coating with colored paint. If you cover jars with chalkboard paint or chalkboard stickers, you could easily create personalized messages for guests, or labels for different flavor and cookie combinations!

We love these cookie party favors for baby showers, children’s parties, or even a bridal shower sleepover! Simply change the colors and patterns of the bags and straws and you can easily make this DIY project specific to your theme. Or, change cookies to cheese or nuts, and the milk to sangria to create an adult party favor that’s perfect for weddings.
