Jo Malone Incense & Embers Candle

Some months ago Jo Malone launched their ‘Just Like Sunday’ candle collection (I’m late on this, so much so that I’m telling you this on a Monday) - the brainchild of Jo Malone style editor/superstylist, Charlotte Stockdale. Designed to capture olfactory bullet points of Charlotte’s concept of an idyllic Sunday, the collection brings together four comforting scents; Sweet Almond & Macaroon, Incense & Embers, Green Tomato Leaf and Lavender & Lovage.

As soon as I spotted Jo Malone Incense & Embers Candle* (£38) I crossed my fingers that it would be, as it sounded, a meeting of two of my all time favourite scents; the warm punchy woodsmoke of Diptyque’s Feu de Bois candle and spiralling, mediative aroma of Comme de Garcons Incense Series 3 Kyoto (a ‘poor girl’s’ Le Labo Gaiac 10 and my daily fragrance of choice).

And that is almost exactly what it is. Combining incense, napa leather, vetiver, golden amber, silver fir and white pepper it’s a bold, addictive yet calming fragrance which easily fills the room without ever feeling overpowering. I tend to keep this on my desk or coffee table when unlit, free of its elegant lid, and regularly find myself absentmindedly picking it up for another sniff.

There’s just a touch more pepper and greenery in the mix which keeps the scent on the right side of ‘outdoorsy’ (rather than purely cosy or wintery), meaning I’m still working my way through the 45 hour burn time even in the slightly warmer weather.

Although Jo Malone collections are generally limited edition, Incense & Embers is still in stock online…and I’ll be quietly hoping they consider making it a permanent addition.
