Tales from a new skincare junkie – thanks to Caroline Hirons

When it comes to skincare, I thought I had it all figured out. After all, I wash my face every night, moisturize my face and neck every day and wear sunscreen the majority of the time. I also dabble in exfoliating and masks once and while. What else could there be?

So much more apparently.

Enter Caroline Hirons. If you don’t know her, get thee to her blog. She is a skincare guru. For real. Her blog and her videos are life-changing. Seriously.

Thanks to Caroline, I’m now a skincare junkie. I realized that the reason my skin was prone to breakout, dryness and redness was all due to what I was using and how I was using it.

Thanks to Caroline, I’ve learned so much about double cleansing, the importance of cleansing in the morning, facial oils, masks, and that anything ‘foaming’ is not necessarily a good thing.

Thanks to Caroline, Sephora’s skincare aisles have become my new favourite hangout, and I’ve got myself a nifty little sample collection growing.

Thanks to Caroline, I can’t get enough about reading about skincare. I scour blog posts about skincare, and read review after review on Sephora’s web site whenever I’m considering a new product to try.

And finally, thanks to Caroline, my wallet is emptier. Just joking. Kind of.

Thanks to her, I basically have a new skincare regimen that I love, and my skin is saying thank you. I’ve seen a huge difference in my skin’s texture and as a result, makeup is looking better! It was such a simple change so I kick myself for not paying more attention in the past.

New favourites include Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm (love, love this!), Kate Sommerville Goat Milk moisturizer (holy grail status for me my friends. This is by far the most expensive cream I’ve ever bought but I have no regrets!) and the Caudalie milk cleanser and toner (love this too!). I’m also a big fan of the Glam Glow mud masks, especially the one in the blue container which has helped to hydrate my skin this winter. The clearing one in the white container is great for spot treatments on days where my skin feels irritated or I feel a breakout is about to happen. My face feels super super clean as a result. As for exfoliation, I am in love the Bliss Micro Magic Spa-Powered Microdermabrasion Treatment is also holy grail status — this has a cooling effect and the volcanic pumice is so, so fine, it feels so luxurious on the skin. After you wash it off, you feel so fresh and clean. Love it!

Finally, there’s is the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. Again, HG status for me. It is thick but very effective. It has done wonders getting rid of my dry, winter-chapped lips.

Skincare for me is now a ritual, and one I’m thoroughly enjoying.
