Day 5: Painted Pine Cones

Here's a fun way to add to your holiday decor. Besides adding a splash of color, it will give you a chance to get outside and enjoy some nature!

Of course, if you don't live close enough to a forest, park, or home with pine trees, you can always buy some pine cones at your local craft store. However, I suggest you check out your local thrift store, first! I found a bunch of pine cones in the holiday section of my local thrift shop, and they were cheaper than 3 bags from the craft store.

Gather up your supplies:

• Paintbrush
• pine cones
• acrylic paint in white and other desired colors

Start by painting the tips white. Using white as a base coat will help the other colors stand out with less layers.

Try a few different design varieties by painting all tips, painting every other, or just randomly applying for a polka dot look!

Once the white has dried, add your color.

I used neon for a nice pop. I also did a couple of ombre designs by choosing one base color and mixing in white to lighten at each row.

You could also save some time and dip the entire pine cone into a container of paint. Of course, that would take more time to dry and be a bit messy. Try dipping just the top portion of the pine cone. Tie twine to the top for an ornament or string from some garland.
