New Obsession: Zella Day

Do you ever hear someones voice and feel like you need to hear more, like their vibe is so real, it’s magnetic? Did I actually say anything? Whatever. I was scrolling through my Instagram screenshots from the last few weeks, and found a few week old Free People video I wanted to watch but never did. It was about a singer I’d never heard of, Zella Day, and within the first ten seconds of the video, I was sold, on her music, her personality, her style, her everything. Her sound is raw, beautiful, perfect, I clearly can’t analyze her music with any skill, but if you don’t listen, you’re missing out.

Favorite quote from the Free People video, “Be you. If you’re where you’re supposed to be, feel it. The world doesn’t need me, but I need to share.”

Zella is the original hippie, commercialization not included, mind you, that’s my label, but it suits her marvelously. Start with that first magical video down there (here’s a little context)…then listen to East of Eden (the next video), then the Free People video (and a little more narration), then do whatever you want, but I have a feeling it will have to do with listening to the rest of her music.

Fun fact, when I went to go follow her on Instagram, it turned out I was already following her, just because I liked her vibe, but completely unaware of her musical magic.
