#Confessions of a Wannabe Style Icon

#Floordrobe:

It’s very hard for me to tell you this without ruining the image that my outfit choices are based on pure scientific knowledge from hours of studying, fashion forecasting via WGSN and my natural keen eye for pairing items up unconventionally. The truth is I floordrobe. I’m a very unorganised chaotic work space type of person, so it’s no surprise my closet situation was dealt the same sort of care from me. It’ll all started on a busy day rummaging through the piles of clothes on my bedroom flow trying to locate one particular item, when all of a sudden the items that had been strewn together seemed to make a perfect look. Sequins and denim, palm tree print and turtle necks or even the neon orange fringe with the forrest green leather biker pants.. In reality a lot of my creativity really just lies on the floor waiting for me to just look at it.

#Instawardrobe

Obviously I need to clear the canvas sometimes. I’ll do a little bit of spring cleaning and take inventory of my closet every few weeks, so I can’t 100% rely on floordrobe magic when it comes to putting together an outfit under the fashionista hand guide section “How to capture the essence of looking effortless by putting in a lot of effort”. On these days when not even 50% of my “effortless lies” are true I resort to my one and only bible of inspiration, my iPhone gallery. Guilty. On my spare times when I’m REALLY in the mood, I put together outfits based on various sorts of inspiration, snap a selfie in them and save them in my “rainy-day-photos-bank”.

#Location Date and Time

Probably one of the hardest bits about being a wannabe style icon. Not to say I don’t work hard everyday for the life I want to have, for my dream job and for my dreams in general, but sometimes it’s hard to leave the house. So from time to time when I know I’ll be super busy, and not around my photographer friends I use a few fall back looks from my personal spank bank of outfits, and do a few shoots in bulk. It’s not that everyday in my life isn’t interesting and personally worth living, but sometimes sharing what I had for breakfast, telling you the only outfit change I had today was changing from my morning pi’s to my sweats… at 8pm, seems so 21st century. I’m sure people have better things to read than the amount of cornflakes I scarfed down, and my list of ten things better to do than to drink coffee. So occasionally for a fashionista, location, date and time are a bit of a white lie, served with the best intentions.

#Dating

I love being in a relationship but forcing myself to find one and make it work is exhausting. Seeing as a few of the best wannabe-style-icon and photographer partners are in relationships, it’s a hard topic to avoid having to discuss. I think dating is best summed up by the true scholar of fashion, Leandra Medine of Manrepeller. The impulse to dress in a manner that is frequently found unattractive by the opposite sex leaves little room for potential gentleman callers. I’ve done the whole dress for your man thing, I’ve been dumped because of a hair cut and I’ve been embarrassed to leave the house in my maxi sweater because it made my date resort to only conversing in matrix quotes. In all honesty currently the thrill of thigh high lace up boots on a night out is more worth the effort. I find the best “blogger boyfriend” is your blog obsessed super stylish friend. No questions asked and no strings attached to the other end of the camera.
