What Would You Save From A Fire?

What would you save from a fire? It’s one of those questions that you really hope you will never need to know the answer too, but hypothetically, if you had a few quick moments to grab something before losing it all, what would you save?

Something with meaning? Something antique and valuable? Something priceless? Something personal and irreplaceable?

Legal & General are currently running a campaign to help reduce the risk of a potential fire in the home and as a way of raising awareness they’ve asked me to share with you what i would save from a fire and why. Obviously it goes without saying that my first priority would be the wellbeing of the boys and Mr B (and pets if we had any), but i’m going to assume for the purpose of this post that as they aren’t objects, they’re all quite happy and safe outside.

To me, there is no material possession more important than photographs. Photographs offer a snapshot in time and the ability to evoke feelings and memories, transporting you back to relive each wonderful moment captured on film. If i was answering this question a few years back, my first thought would probably have been to salvage any photo albums but nowadays i have all of my photos backed up to icloud and online storage so i know that they’re safe.

So, if i had to choose just one thing it would be the boys’ memory boxes. They contain everything from positive pregnancy tests, scan photos, hospital tags and baby books to first outfits, locks of hair, cards (new baby, birthday, Christmas) and in Riley’s case, everything from his 6 weeks of care in NICU. These items are so precious to me and have such high sentimental value that no money in the world could ever replace them and i would be absolutely devastated if they were lost or taken from my possession.

Hopefully it’s something that i or you guys never have to face, but it’s worth thinking about how you would keep your memories, valuables and most important possessions safe. If you’d like some advice, Legal & General have some great tips on how to keep yourself safe and reduce the risk of a potential fire in your home here. It’s definitely worth a read.

*Disclosure: I was provided with a voucher in exchange for this post, however all thoughts are 100% honest and entirely my own.
