celebrating the 4th!

hi! hope you had a wonderful 4th of july weekend!

we spent the 4th up in connecticut with good friends! the day started off strong when after grabbing some bagels in our rental car for the drive, all three kiddos fell asleep for the car ride! epic. incredible. and it’ll probably never happen again. although it did happen on the car ride back to the city after fireworks, but considering it was 11pm, that only seemed right.

we actually decided to push our luck once we approached the city since all three kids were down and go get some late night food together. we pulled up to one of our favorite old spots in morningside heights, but within 30 seconds of josh leaving me and the sleeping kids in the car to run in and grab our food, both conrad and samson woke up and started screaming and crying! josh left his phone in the car so there was no way to get his attention to say “ABORT MISSION! LET’S GO!” and i just had to try to sooth them both from the front seat. it was a mess. they both fell back asleep once we started driving again (i think the motion is what they love), but i think that entire ten minute escapade stressed me out enough for the next year.

we spent the morning at the beach, where i only snagged this one photo below, and then back to our friend’s home where we enjoyed some backyard grilling and good company before heading to the park to see the fireworks. a few photos below…

that fireworks show was intense and beautiful and i kept thinking the entire time as i looked over at josh and my kids faces, how glad i am for the chance to live here in such a great place, and how incredible these freedoms truly are, which we enjoy on a daily basis. happy independence day!

ps. my hat is from madewell and dress from & other stories. samson’s shirt and hat are from crewcuts and eleanor’s romper is from gap kids. conrad’s sun hoodie is by patagonia and his leggings are zara. josh’s shirt is from jcrew and my sandals are my ten year old salt waters that are still going strong. :) all of these pictures were taken on my iphone and edited with the vsco cam app.
