LBS Beauty: Maintaining Extensions with Dove Quench Absolute

A few weeks ago, the Dove Hair team invited the LoveBrownSugar team out to a Salon Day at the Vu Hair Salon in NYC, hosted by their celebrity stylist Cynthia Alvarez. The purpose of this special salon day was for the LBS team to try out their newest collection for textured curls called the Dove Quench Absolute Collection.

Dove’s new #LoveYourCurls campaign is all about embracing curly hair textures and learning how to maintain curls and feel confident. They sent me a really cute video featuring the campaign and I absolutely fell in love with it. It features little girls explaining their curly hair struggles and it’s so touching. See the video at the bottom of this post.

As soon as I walked into the cozy salon I was greeted by Dove’s team and one of my personal FAVORITE hairstylists – Cynthia Alvarez!

Cynthia is the talent behind the hair looks of celebrities like Keke Palmer, Rita Ora and so many more. I’m a true fan of her work so it was pretty amazing getting to sit in her chair and have her style my curls again. The last time we met up for a styling session was during NYFW a few years ago.

The first step was Cynthia doing an evaluation of my hair and determining what would be the best styling solution for the day. I’m currently wearing weave extensions that are curly so we opted for a wash & go look with defined curls.

The next step was detangling the hair. Cynthia and her time took time to separate the curls and detangle the extensions to make the wash & deep condition process easier.

Next, they used the Dove Quench Absolute Shampoo & Conditioner to wash my scalp, cleanse the extensions of any product build-up and to restore moisture into the extensions and my own natural curls underneath.

Back in Cynthia’s chair, she applied the Dove Quench Absolute Creme Serum to my curls to initiate curl definition. This stuff smells SO good. And it made my hair feel so soft and well-moisturized.

She raked the serum through my hair and detangled with a wide-tooth comb.

The next step was applying some styling mousse to give my curls a little hold. She used the Dove Style Care Whipped Cream Mousse as a styler before putting me under the dryer.

She used a diffuser to lightly dry my hair so the curls would set.

Finally, I sat under a hooded dryer for about 30 minutes to allow my braids under the weave to dry completely.

And this is the finished look! Super soft and well-defined curls. I really enjoyed my experience trying the Dove Quench Absolute collection of products. They smell amazing, they made my hair really soft and I think they’re a great solution for highly textured curls.
