These little penguins are begging to be made – just look at those tiny winter hats! Like most people, I love penguins. Whether they are in my local zoo or in animated movies like Madagascar. Last summer, I went to the London Zoo on a sunset safari. During these events, participants show up when the zoo would normally be closing. Zookeepers stay late on those nights, and guests get to see the animals being fed with a much less crowded atmosphere. To be totally honest, I absolutely adored it.
I’m not unique in loving zoos or animals – that’s a pretty universal thing. And with that in mind, I know that oodles of readers will love the Bobble and Bubble penguin knitting pattern by Amanda Berry. The pattern includes instructions for both the large and the small penguin, and their accompanying hats.
This penguin knitting pattern is knitted flat on 3.5 mm (US 5) needles in pieces and seamed together. The pattern uses the intarsia colorwork technique to achieve the color changes in the penguins; Amanda Berry has included row by row instructions and helpful guides on the techniques used to make the penguins.
To make these penguins, you’ll need Hayfield Bonus DK yarn in Black (965), White (961), and Sunflower (978) for the penguins, plus 2 additional shades for their hats. You’ll only need one ball of each shade!
For the more adventurous penguin enthusiasts among you, why not knit matching viking hats for your penguins instead? Just like the penguins, you’ll need Hayfield Bonus DK yarn and 3.5 mm (US 5) needles. The (free!) hat was designed for Amanda Berry’s toys, and it would be great for more Nordic penguin friends.
