Clean White Workspace

I only realised last week (to my horror) that I hadn’t done a proper post on one of my favourite spots in the house. My home office/workspace/makeup desk/other end of my bedroom/flatlay background… its uses are endless. I’ve had such a great response to this space on Instagram so I thought it was worth a blog post.

I really struggled finding a desk that was both affordable but also with enough storage space and tabletop space (for all hoarded brass items – which I’m completely justifying to myself since brass is still on trend according to all the trade shows I have visited the past few weeks). There are some gorgeous desks about don’t get me wrong but they all had a pricey tag attached, IKEA nearly ticked all the boxes but I knew that I wanted the tabletop part of the desk to fit the width of my room. Most of the table tops IKEA had were a maximum of 1.5m in length and I needed a whopping 3m of desk. Queue IKEA kitchen worktops. The answer to my prayers, and actually cheaper than some of the desk table tops Ikea had too! For the storage part – everyone has seen these drawers before – the ever popular IKEA Malm Chest of 3 drawers. Bear in mind that depending on the width of your room and the length of your worktop you may need to trim the worktop down to fit. Same applies for the depth of the worktop – it completely depends on the space you are playing with. And that’s pretty much it, my IKEA Hack, the worktop is not secured or anything, the pure weight of the worktop means it doesn’t slide about – although if you have kids and are thinking of giving this ago I would suggest securing the worktop to the drawers and securing the drawers to the wall just incase… it does look like a fun climbing frame and I have seen IKEA warning parents to secure these particular drawers to walls.

Teamed with a few accessories and my DIY Wire Memo Board, it all ties together nicely and despite having a terrible habit of changing it up every month or so, I’m still chuffed with my workspace. Speaking of… I’m making and putting up some DIY shelves above the desk soon but I don’t want to give it all away so that is all I will say for now… I’m just desperate for somewhere to display my new feature lights – see the last photo, I’m ridiculously excited to get them up!!!
