Say NO to Headband Headache

Now, even over the internet waves I can sense some of you sighing and thinking, I wish I could wear headbands, but they hurt too much! Perhaps that’s even the friendly version of your feelings towards headbands, either way, I know what you’re talking about. What you’ve experience my friend, is known in the industry as “headband headache.” It’s caused by the ends of a headband putting pressure on a point just below the ears on either side of your head.
The problem is that everyone has a different shaped skull, making it impossible for one shape of headband to fit us all equally, therefore the uncomfortable results. Our CEO and Founder, Laurie, wasn’t happy about this as headbands are one of our keystones and frankly, one of the most popular and fashionable hair accessories! Blair Waldorf, anyone?
So, Laurie set out to find a solution and ended up with two! First, let’s talk about a material called Cellulose Acetate. Without going too in depth on the mechanics of it, it’s basically a plastic material that has a bit of flexibility to it when warm. We cut and shaped this material into the shape of a headband. Because of it’s special properties, when you put the headband on it will fit tightly, but given a few minutes sitting on your head, the warmth of your skull will give the band what it needs to mold to fit your head shape and won’t put pressure behind your ears. What you’ll notice when wearing these headbands is that the shape it arrives in is not the shape it will be after you’ve worn it. The other huge plus to these headbands is that they are extremely durable! They will last a lifetime and won’t break easily.

Second, let’s talk about our L. Erickson USA headbands. Working with silks and beautiful fabrics is another cornerstone in our business and we found a way to incorporate that into the headbands to make them ultracomfortable too! Each headband is finished with a small tab of fabric that is wrapped and sewn around each end to create a bit of extra padding to protect the head from extra pressure. By eliminating the pressure, you eliminate the headache!
