Winter Garden Theatre - Doors Open Toronto

We're getting near the end of the Doors Open Toronto posts, but we've still got a few places to explore before I wrap up the event till next year.
One of my favourite spots to visit was the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre on Yonge and Queen. It's two very different theatres in one beautiful building. When you walk in, everything is gold with huge mirrors lining the hall that leads to the separate theatres. The lighting was very yellow which at first had me worried, but as it turns out, the photos look quite magical, even if I look like a carrot in them.

This area wasn't occupied, but I'm quite sure that during regular show hours it's a coat check location.

Climbing these stairs made me feel like I was in an episode of Gossip Girl when they go to the opera.

The Winter Garden Theatre was our first stop, and it definitely made me think that I was in some sort of Shakespearean play. The columns around the room were all made to look like tree trunks, with the ceiling made to be the leafy-ness of a tree. I honestly felt like I was in a magical world, walking through a little village nestled under incredibly full trees.

Don't those balconies make you think that Juliet should be standing there, shouting "Oh Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?"

I sincerely wish that the lighting had been better so I could have truly captured the details in the theatre, but in a weird way, the dark lighting added to the magic of the decor. It's a win/lose situation, so I definitely made the best of it.

Stay tuned for my post on the Elgin Theatre!
