Family Life // Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week

How much do you know about Carbon Monoxide poisoning? Well, this week is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week and I’ve got a fantastic giveaway for you, as well as some very interesting facts and figures from npower’s annual research.

Did you know that only 6% of Brits can identify the most common symptoms of CO poisoning?

And that more than a third of UK homes (33.9%) aren’t fitted with a CO alarm? That’s approximately 9 million homes.

Also, each year in the UK, over 200 people are admitted to hospital with suspected CO poisoning and around 50 people die unnecessarily from it. New research from npower suggests that people in the UK are unaware of the symptoms of CO poisoning, so the real number of people affected could potentially be much higher.

The infographic below is so insightful (and a little bit scary!):

One thing npower have done to raise awareness of Carbon Monoxide poisoning this year is enlist the help of six children from Brighton (my homeland!). The children were asked to draw what they thought a deadly gas might look like, and then these drawings were brought to life by a team of talented illustrators… Although – I think might prefer the children’s drawings! The aim is to give Carbon Monoxide an identifiable persona and raise awareness.

npower have also created this video below of the (children’s) drawing process:
