So what do you read while on vacation? Mysteries? Romance? TPS Reports?
Well on this latest getaway, I was allllllll about the personal development books! You know, those books that make you a better person and stuff. I have always been into them as you know from my previous book recommendations (most recently here and here), but read TWO in particular this trip that I just really want to share with you.
Um, so I feel like I should just skip all of this typing nonsense and tell you to READ THIS BOOK NOW. Seriously. This is the kind of book that makes you change how to think plan live your life. And it’s a super quick read…I think it only took me 9 cosmopolitans to read this baby (not all at once you guys! Sheesh! I am not a lush. This was totally between two separate days ).
Okay, but really. Darren Hardy just has a very clear way of writing that is rooted in inspiration AND practicality (he provides a ton of examples from his own life as well as all the successful folks he interviews for his magazines so creatively titled SUCCESS Magazine). Women tend to focus on two main types of goals: fitness/health and financial. We are often neglecting setting real goals for our relationships with our partner/friends, work and home. Darren Hardy gives you a template and plenty of ideas for how to make your own personal plan.
Eeeeekk! I just get excited even thinking about this book. Nerd alert city.
I have now read this book twice. And no, not because I drank while reading it the first time. But because I just really wanted to soak in the key tenets once again. It’s just such a powerful book in many ways, but the main message is this: If you want positive change in your life, get off the freakin’ roller coaster. Just by making some very small changes and taking small actions consistently every day, you will gradually move from ordinary to extraordinary. This book shares “the how.”
Oh! And he talks a lot about the idea that failure is good!! So what if you look in the mirror right now and see average unhealthy overweight. All great success stories have a Day 1…make today your day 1 just with very small actions! I’ve seen how this tiny snowflake can turn into a big snowball in my own life, so I really value and believe in the ideas in this book and hope you find it helpful!

PS – I found it somewhat hilarious that the “gentleman” I sat next to on the plane ride home today was on his iPad reading a personal development book titled “Getting Things Done” while simultaneously going back and forth on Instant Messenger with a female who appeared very proud of her breast-al region based on the images she was sending him (I did think the “these are waiting for you in Vegas baby” was a sweet message though). In any case, he WAS multi-tasking so good for him!
PPS – It’s good to be back…:)
