A magical announcement!

Toby and I are very excited to announce that we are expecting a baby girl, due in April 2019!

We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season, but our rainbow baby is definitely at the top of our list! We thought a Thanksgiving visit to Tokyo Disneyland was the perfect opportunity to take a photo to announce our big news.

I had ordered the adorable baby shoes from Baby Gap and brought them with us to Tokyo for the photo, but we weren’t sure who was going to take the picture for us. We ended up getting super lucky, though: There was an American family in front of the castle at the same time as us, and we asked if they’d like us to take their photo. When they were taking ours, they mentioned that they were expecting, too, and were planning to take an announcement photo when they got back home. We told them they were more than welcome to borrow the shoes for their own pictures, so it worked out perfectly! Their little girl even came up and gave me a hug afterward. Definitely some Disney magic at work!

Though this will be our first baby, it is actually my third pregnancy. While I have not had any trouble getting pregnant thusfar (unlike so many other women I know), I did have two miscarriages while we were in Bahrain. The first was very shortly after we moved there — we hadn’t even moved out of the hotel and into our house yet — and the entire experience was a nightmare. There is no U.S. military hospital there, and being new, we just went to the closest hospital to our hotel, which was a bad decision. Everything turned out OK, but there were several things that made an already very sad situation even more horrible.

Anyway, I don’t want to be too negative, since the point of this post is to announce our happy news. But I wanted to put that out there, because I want to make sure others who are going through similar struggles realize they’re not alone. I am certainly not an expert, but please do email me (jen at marshmallowsandmargaritas dot com) if you’d like to talk more about this one-on-one. My doctor in Bahrain was not very helpful, but thankfully I was able to go to a doctor in the U.S. while we were in the process of moving, which I think made a significant difference. And the doctors and hospital here in Okinawa seem wonderful so far!
