Weekend Rewind | Parkouring through life

Hello! I’m back! Did you miss me? Actually, don’t answer that, the important thing is that I missed you. I really missed writing on this here blog, which is important because after five years, sometimes I wonder if I’ve still got the bug. What? Did I just say five years? In 10 days time it will be five years since I wrote my first (very random) post. Just reading that post makes me realise how much this blog has changed. But we’ll talk about that more on the 27th, shall we?

The kids are right into parkour at the moment. Many of you will be saying ‘park-what?’ and I don’t blame you. Parkour is a rather obscure sport that originated out of French street culture. It has a rather fascinating history, but the whole point of it all is getting from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible.

I want to be good at parkour myself. Well, not physically, but mentally. I am practising getting from A to B in the most efficient way possible. Blocking out all the noise, focusing on the end result and then working out the best way to vault the obstacles and get there. A streamlined mind that works fast. A parkour brain. I’d be happy with that.

On the physical side of things, I’m more Max than Cappers. Cappers leaps over buildings with a single bound. Max, I have these kinds of conversations with:

Max: I’ve made my own parkour course and I’m going to get from Point A to Point B in the most efficient way possible.

Me: Go you!

Max launches himself at the slippery dip, starts walking up, starts sliding down, grasps for the top and hangs limply. He tries to pull himself up and fails, tries again, loses his grip and slides awkwardly to the bottom. He gets up, brushes himself off and tries walking up the slide again. Slips down.

Me: Maybe you need a run up? That will get you up there for sure.

Max backs away form the slide. Does a few little steps and attacks the slide again. Gets half way up, loses his footing and bails over the edge.

Me: It’s like watching parkour in slow motion.

Max: Yep and I haven’t even got to point A yet.

Man, I love that boy! Here’s what he looks like in his head:

Other things that had me this week:

Reading – I polished off the second book in Al’s Mapmaker Chronicles – Prisoner of the Black Hawk and it’s even better than the first one. I swear she is really writing these book for adults… I’ve got a massive crush on Zain. There, I said it.
Writing – I’ve stopped procrastinating wildly and I’m back to writing my screen freedom ebook and what I’m coming up with is so satisfying.
Making – less making, more revealing my smash book.
Wishing – Arabella a wonderful time at Band Camp next week.
Lovingyumboxes! I wish I wasn’t on my mean budget so I could get some for the kids lunches. As it is, forking out $119.85 for lunch boxes seems a tad excessive.
Wondering – why I just can’t work when the kids are around me. I get so cranky! Hence, not a lot of work getting done during daylight hours during the school hols!

We’ll be back next week with a brand new guest hostie. In the meantime, you’ll have to make do with me, Sonia from Life, Love and Hiccups, Sonia from Sonia Styling and Kelly from A Life Less Frantic.

Happy reading!
