5 Fandom Friday: 5 Nerdiest Things You’ve Ever Done

Brought to you by; The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick

I have to admit that this was a really fun prompt. I am pretty damn nerdy and ridiculous when it comes to my fandoms, so I’ve done quite a few things that I deem up there when it comes to superlatives. It was actually difficult to only whittle it down to 5. I will never lie about one thing: I fangirl. And I fangirl hard.

1; First fans to enter The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

When I found out that there was going to be a theme park based on Harry Potter, and it was going to basically be in my backyard, I had to be there. I didn’t care that opening day was in June, which meant terrible heat and humidity. I didn’t care that there would be throngs of people to fight to get in. I didn’t care that we had to wake up at 4am. We somehow (I still think someone slipped us some Felix Felicis) ended up being the first 50 people in the park right behind the cast. It was amazing – we were on the Today Show and interviewed by NBC6. Daniel Radcliffe even walked right past us like he was an every day normal muggle. It was one of my most favorite days.

2; Attended the first ever & last ever LOST panels at San Diego Comic Con

The first time I attended San Diego Comic Con, I actually wasn’t excited. That’s right. You heard me. I was kind of dragged along by my husband (then boyfriend) at the time to support his friends that would be trying to shop their comic around (my husband was their colorist). I didn’t quite know what awaited me being such a huge Lord of the Rings nerd at the time (not that I am not now, but it was strong back then). I found out Dominic Monaghan was going to be attending as part of a panel for some new show called LOST. While watching the pilot months before it aired, little did I know that it was going to be end up being my favorite show of all time. It goes without saying that I had to be at the last panel a few years ago, which was very moving (I cried), hilarious (I cracked up) & memorable (look how close Ben & Hurley ended up to us). This show meant a lot to me, and it makes it even more special that I was there from even before the beginning.

3; Flew across the country to see BUSH play their first gig back together

Just as much as I fangirl over geeky stuff, I also fangirl over music. I was a 90’s teen, so naturally, I was obsessed with Bush. I imagined myself marrying Gavin Rossdale (sorry, hubs) and having all his babies (sorry again, hubs). Although that didn’t end up happening (kudos to Gwen for getting that privilege), I did end up being in their largest fan group as an adult and when I heard the boys would be getting back together, I had to be at their first show…in California…on the stage. You know, just a regular ‘ole day.

4; I dyed my hair inspired by a My Little Pony character

Growing up I was obsessed with My Little Pony. I used to watch it every single day and if I wasn’t going to be home to watch an episode, my mother would record it for me on VHS (the struggle was real, kids). I had countless toys, accessories and what not. I couldn’t get enough. I didn’t seem to grow out of it because I love the new series, and especially Ms. Twilight Sparkle. After a hard time, I decided to channel my inner pony and took her hairstyle as inspiration for my own. I absolutely loved it and actually rocked this look for over a year (quite the feat for fickle little me).

5; I have 5 fandom based tattoos

I adore getting new ink, and shortly after my first I-Just-Turned-18 tattoo (I give you 3 guesses before you figure out what’s on my lower back), I began stocking up on fandom tattoos. I haven’t slowed down yet, getting my most recent one in November of this past year (Hannibal arm piece). I also have a list of more I’d like to get done, but Luna is slowing that down for me.
