5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Aliens

Brought to you by The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick

Who doesn’t love thinking of the possibilities that space could offer? Other universes, potential alternative home planets and, most intriguing, other life forms. Are we really alone in this expansive universe? It’s an age old question (and one the History Channel loves to delve into) that has had our culture obsessing over alien life for quite awhile. It’s no surprise that aliens are commonly included in most sci-fi shows and movies: both depicted as evil and adorable. So without further ado, here are 5 of my favorite aliens:

1. The Doctor; You know that The Doctor would make it to #1 on my list, right? Duh. Although he is an alien, The Doctor represents hope in humanity and acceptance. He helps others grow and discover who they truly are, and how special they are. He warmed my heart during my darkest of times, so The Doctor (specifically 10) is my all-time favorite alien.

2. E.T.; Perhaps the sweetest movie of my childhood. I was obsessed with watching E.T. as a kid and it’s easy to see why. The story of a young boy and his family that discover a misplaced alien. Silly adventures transpire and the boy wants to help his new friend save his home world. It’s really a beautiful story that JJ Abram’s Super 8 attempted to retell for a modern audience. Although it was cute – nothing can beat E.T. for me…freaky finger touch and all.

3. Yoda; I think Yoda is the most recognizable alien in all of pop culture, and with due reason. He’s a old, wise little creature that still packs a powerful punch. You also can’t help but want to hug him ever so tight. If all aliens were promised to be like Yoda, I think we would all be begging to be abducted.

4. Mars Attacks Aliens; OK, so these have no poignant part or moment in my life other than being hilarious. I absolutely love Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks and think it is a must-see if you are into kitschy goodness. And I dare you not to start chanting

Ack Ack the rest of the day (it’s nearly impossible, I’ve tried).

5. Starbuck; So this one may be a little controversial. Battlestar Galactica writers have admitted that Starbuck’s character is an other worldly figure (most likely an angel), but not necessarily an alien. However, I’m taking that with a grain of salt because they have been very vague and would like the audience to form their own opinions so I’m going to put her on this list. She is by far my favorite female character of all time and actually a cosplay I’d love to tackle at some point!
