Weekly Wrap Up Linky – We Will Remember Them
This ANZAC Day, we stop to remember the brave servicemen and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. Ninety-nine years ago, thousands of brave young men stepped onto the shores of Gallipoli, Turkey, where many paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Unprepared and ill equipped, many soldiers barely made it from the water.
As a mother, I can not imagine the heartbreak of having to send a child away to war.
As a teacher, I have always found war a very difficult topic to try and explain to children. Listening to the ANZAC Services held at school over the years, I wonder how many students understand what they are commemorating (and it’s okay if they don’t being so young). The younger students make poppies for craft and bake ANZAC biscuits. The older students discuss war poetry and stories. They will learn more about war as they grow older.
