Eye Mosaic

Hi everyone,

I have started to make a new eye mosaic, so I have been working hard making a lot of clay eyes. If you’re curious about the process I’ve posted some pics below:

After the clay eyes are dry, I fire them in my kiln. This is called a Bisque firing. This is how they come out.

I glaze each eye with glazes and underglazes, and then I fire them for the second time.

It’s always very exciting to open the kiln after a glaze firing.

Most of the eyes came out great, but about 20% need to be reglazed in my opinion.

An example of a good glaze:

I will have to reglaze these eyes:

Over the next month I will keep making clay eyes. I’ll keep you posted and share the rest of the process.

My mosaic work combines a lot of my passions and is an amazing creative outlet. I’m always interested in how individual objects come together to create a piece that is both intriguing and coherent.

I have been deeply influenced by the archaeological sites of Israel, and I try to incorporate those elements into my work. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.

Here are some mosaics I have already completed:

Black and White Mosaic

Brazil Mosaic

Brazil Mosaic 2

Day of the Dead Mosaic

I was very disappointed that Boyhood did not win an Oscar. I thought it was a great movie and I did not find Birdman as interesting. What did you think?
