How to DIY Your Deodorant

There aren’t many products in your skincare routine or beauty arsenal that you can’t DIY. That said, we rarely think about making a DIY version of deodorant. We wear it daily to keep us dry under pressure, but there are lots of reasons why store bought product might not be desirable. You could be fearful of the aluminum in antiperspirants, or the heavy artificial scents might bother your sinuses. On the most basic level, you prefer using natural products or playing inventor with your own effective concoctions. No matter your reason, if you want to DIY your deodorant, here are two recipes to try now.

The Basic

This recipe is probably one of the easiest–there are complex ones loaded with beeswax and more–but if you want something quick and effective, then using ingredients that are household staples never disappoints! Here’s what you need.

  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil (melted)
  • Essential oils (10 drops of lavender depending on how strong you want the smell. You can use any aroma you like too!)

Simply combine all ingredients, mix until smooth, transfer to a jar and then apply. You can wait until the coconut oil (our beauty cure-all) has hardened a bit if you prefer more of a cream instead of liquid application.

The Complex

If you’re looking for something with more depth and fragrance to it, then this citrus scented deodorant will do the trick. The ingredients will be slightly harder to find, but saved as a liquid will last you months! Here’s what you need.

The process for this DIY deodorant is a bit more time intensive. You’ll want to infuse your herbs in the liquids–place the sage in the witch hazel and cleavers in the vodka–for about 2 weeks. Then strain and combine the remaining ingredients in your bottle. A few sprays and you won’t be sweating the small stuff for long!

Have you tried DIY deodorant? Or is there something you would like to know how to make for your beauty routine? Let me know!
