Reunited

The weather and family aligned in the most perfect way this weekend! Chicago finally got our dose of spring and my brother came to town for a work conference — and thankfully came in a few days early so that we could hang out and so that I could show him around.

I haven't seen my brother in nearly five years. Yikes. We've nearly crossed paths a handful of times but somehow always missed each other. On top of both of us working and moving around and traveling, he has two young kids that keep him and my sister-in-law busy. They live in San Diego (!) which makes it even sillier that I haven't made it a point to go out and visit.

So he flew in on Friday and we had some catching up to do — and it most definitely had to be surrounded by food. I took him to all of my favorite Chicago spots. I felt like I had possibly gained ten pounds in the matter of two days.

On Saturday I showed him Chicago's Chinatown. There's a great park called Ping Tom Memorial Park there and I was really hoping to catch the cherry blossoms blooming. We were about a week late, but they had these wonderful huge gardens of daffodils. My brother is extremely knowledgeable and interested in plants, so it seemed like a good match.

Since it was so beautiful outside (to give you an idea, it's been in the 40s and 50s all week and it was nearly 80° on Saturday... our first summer-feelin' day!), we took he Chicago Water Taxi up the river to downtown, where we grabbed coffee and walked around the godly Eataly building. I took him to Carriage House for dinner and onto drinks and social time with my friends.

My family is pretty small — I am close with my parents and although I have five siblings all together, I only really know one of them well. The others are much older than me and I don't know a lot about them. I love showing people around my city and reminding myself why I love it here so much. It's really the best place.
