Wholesomeness Meals Review

If you’re like me, sometimes you just need a break from cooking! As much as I really love cooking lately (and I have!) when I was offered the chance to try out Wholesomeness Food, I was so excited, as was my partner Shannon.

*A quick disclaimer, this post is not sponsored, but we were offered these meals free of charge. We are so thankful to have the opportunity and our views on the meals remain honest!

There are a huge range of meals available through the Wholesomeness website, including great freezable Winter meals, regular main meals, juices, sweet treats, organic meat and much more! All of their meals are gluten and dairy free, and they also have some great vegan options available as well! Not only this, but you can get it delivered straight to your door!

Shannon and I decided to try two meals each, and one juice each. As Shannon still eats meat (but chooses mainly dairy free foods), he chose the Lemongrass Chicken (RRP $9.95), Pork Belly (RRP $9.95) and Yellow Cold Pressed Juice (RRP $7.00). I chose the Pumpkin Cashew Curry (RRP $9.95), Mexican Black Beans (RRP $9.95) and the Red Cold Pressed Juice (RRP $7.00).

Pork Belly with Quinoa, Beetroot and Roasted Apple, and Yellow Cold Pressed Juice

Day 1

The first night Shannon opted for the Pork Belly, and I had the Pumpkin Cashew Curry, and we both had our juices as well.

We both found the juices super tasty and fresh. The Yellow Juice was made with Pineapple, Carrot, Apple, Ginger and Mint, which Shannon commented was very refreshing and tasted awesome. The Red Juice, made from Carrot, Beetroot, Apple, Cucumber, Lemon and Parsley was also surprisingly tasty! I can admittedly be picky with juices that are chockfull of vegetables but these literally tasted fruity. The fact that these fruits were also locally sourced was icing on the cake.

Shannon commented that the Pork Belly was succulent and not dry at all. The side dish of quinoa, beetroot and roasted apple was also delicious, his favourite part being the apple slices, a fresh addition instead of using sugar loaded apple sauce. His construction criticism was the pork belly skin was a little too juicy and not dried out enough to get that crisp crackle. Maybe popping the pork belly skin in the oven before eating this one would be a good move!

His other comments were that as a male who is currently bulking, he would have chosen the larger portion of 400g for $12.95, instead of the standard 300g for $9.95 in the future.

Pumpkin Cashew Curry with Cauliflower Rice, and Red Cold Pressed Juice

I absolutely loved the Pumpkin Cashew Curry, with a side dish of cauliflower rice. The roasted pumpkin made it a great Winter’s night meal, but I didn’t feel bloated or too full after eating thanks to the lightness of the cauliflower rice. The curry flavour was also delicious, not at all spicy for this heat wuss. I prefer my curries to be pretty mild, so this one was suitable for my tastes. This is also one of their certified vegan meals, with no animal products at all! Success!

Mexican Black Beans with Herbed Polenta and Lemongrass Chicken

Day 2

Shannon had the Lemongrass Chicken the next night, and this time he said it was more filling that the Pork Belly meal surprisingly. He loved the added creaminess of the coconut cream to the cauliflower rice, and the freshness of the lemongrass was not too overpowering. He also commented that the chicken wasn’t too dry, a common occurrence in take home, reheated meals.

I had the Mexican Black Bean with Herbed Polenta, and to be completely honest, I wasn’t a 100% fan. In the picture on the website, it shows the herbed polenta as a sort of ‘bed’ of polenta. But the polenta was served as cut up cubes which wasn’t to my taste. However, the rest of the meal was delicious, and again, not too spicy for my taste. Even without the polenta, I was satiated in my meal.

Overall, we were super satisfied with our meals and would definitely consider choosing these again! I picked these up straight from the store (as it was on my way home from work) but they also deliver to the Brisbane region! You do need to order meals in advance (order Friday for Monday or Tuesday delivery or pick up) as these meals are made super fresh!

As you can probably tell from the meal styles, they are not only dairy and gluten free, but also low carbohydrate.

Have you tried anything from Wholesomness Foods?
