Ambra Medda, founder and director of Miami Art Basel (I interviewed her last year), is currently working on her latest project, an art e-shop called L’ArcoBaleno (“rainbow” in Italian) that sells some of the most coveted design items by creators such as Alvar Aalto, Zaha Hadid, Ernst Max Jahn, Gerrit Rietveld, Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, Marc Newson… The committee is formed by names like Stefano Tonchi (W‘s editor in chief), Pharrell Williams, Alexander Dellal, Stavros Niarchos III, Reed Krakoff, o Tom Dixon. I navigated the store this weekend and fell in love.
Even if you’re not buying anything, the store is a great source of information about the best designers around the globe. Every art piece comes with an explanation about its meaning, a bio of the creator and related items. It’s a fantastic way of getting started in the art world and knowing about the most influential designers.
The selection of works is done with a great taste. From bookshelves to tables, including carpets, jewelry pieces, lamps, tableware… And an original choice of books. There’s a one about taxing art at the borders that looks very interesting.
