How to Wear Pale Pink this Spring

Nothing new here, by pale pink is make a resurgence in clothing as Spring seems to be on the horizon. (At least most of the snow is gone now.)

While I’m seeing more and more pale pink on bloggers and in stores, I’ve noticed this trend seems to be one that is much more prevalent on the coasts than it is here in the Midwest. My own closet, for example, is pretty bare when it comes to pale pink. Actually it is pretty bare when it comes to any pale shades – mint, lilac, pink. Nothing much to speak of.

Still, I’m working to slowly introduce the color into my closet through pieces that I really like and that will last through to other seasons, even if pale pink isn’t as popular in another 6 months or this time next year. This is a fashion stretch for me, but I also like that this color can be word casually or in a dressy situation. Afterall, it’s all about what the clothing item is combined with.

What colors work with pale pink?

To a certain extent, pale pink is a neutral, so it should be fairly easy to mix and match it with the things you own. But a couple simple color combinations you could consider:

Pink and Gray – This subtle, pale, very feminine combination is a personal favorite of mine. It keeps the soft hues of the pink and carries it through with the simple grays.

Pink and Black – This is a bold statement, make the pink contrast significantly with the dark color. This combination is certainly more eye-catching than a pink and gray combo would be, but it can also lend toward some fun creativity when it comes to accents and accessories.

Pink and Pink – When dressing you can combine any and every color with the colors directly next to it on the color wheel, as well as a number of other shades in the same family. This would be a combination I would tend toward, going with a pale pink and a very bold pink, keeping in the same color family but creating a bold look with the contrast.

Pink and Mint – Mint is another color of the season, but it is also the color wheel opposite of pale pink. While this color combination could leave you looking like a delicious bad of cotton candy, it is also a flattering color mix when done well. If mixing these two colors, pick items that are toned down in their pattern and style so as not to draw too much attention.

Bringing pale pink into your closet.

Start small, especially if you haven’t worn this color before. Maybe that means picking up a pale pink t-shirt or a scarf.

Chances are you already have things in your closet you can pair the pink tone with. Sift through and check before making a purchase. Nearly any gray shade would work wonderfully. Plus classic denim and black are always safe bets.

For those feeling a little more adventurous maybe you want to start with a pink dress or skirt. This requires a little more forethought and styling than a simple t-shirt, but again it can be easily accomplished.

Not sure if a pale pink clothing item is your thing? Why not try a pair of shoes in the color? You could pair with with a number of different colors, making them a fairly neutral pair of shoes that you could wear with a number of outfits you already own.
