Jenny Hval is a Norwegian artist whose music touches on art practice, modern composition, and pop music; drawing influence from Laurie Anderson, Kate Bush, Nick Cave, and Patti Smith. Hval released two albums under the name Rockettothesky (2006’s To Sing You Apple Trees and 2008’s Medea, the latter of which contained a memorable song inspired by Werner Herzog’s documentary Grizzly Man), before putting out her first solo album, Viscera, in 2011.
