Christmas 2014

Somewhere In My Memory by John Williams on Grooveshark
This Christmas felt quite different from past Christmas's. We arrived back to lovely and cold London from tropical Malaysia on Christmas eve. I had no sleep on the plane so having been awake for 30 hours I was feeling all sorts of bizarre. We made a pit stop at our apartment to dump our suitcases and pack a bag for the few days we'd be away from home for Christmas, then headed to my mums where we watched festive films and sipped sherry by the fire. It felt really good to be home.

Christmas morning was kicked off with Orlaith opening her stocking from Father Christmas followed by breakfast. We spent the rest of Christmas day at my Uncle's house. Last year he hosted 20 people for Christmas lunch. This year we were less than 10 so it was a much more relaxed affair. After catching up with family, exchanging gifts and stuffing ourselves with amazing food the jetlag took over me and I passed out on the sofa and was in bed by 7pm.

I love Christmas and I love seeing my family. And without sounding ungrateful, because I am 100% grateful for people's generosity and thoughtfulness, I was mortified by the amount of things Orlaith was given this year and by her expectation of 'more'. I firmly believe that if a child receives one or two gifts they will value these gifts more than if they're given 20 gifts. And I'd like to achieve that balance in the future. The balance of understanding that holidays are times for family and friends to be together, and that a few gifts are ok, but they're not what we should focus on.

On another note, well done to LaTanya for winning the Project You Life Design Course Giveaway!
