Four Generations of a Loving Family Captured in One Stunning Series of Portraits

Family photographs help us to remember and appreciate our loved ones. It can sometimes be a challenge to gather the gang for a photoshoot, but as photographer Kelsei Frazier shows, these get-togethers are important. She recently captured four generations of family members in one striking series of portraits. The pictures depict her friend Brittney Butler who reached out to Frazier after losing both of her grandfathers within a couple of years of each other. Butler—the third generation daughter in the photos—realized that her grandmother was all she had left of her grandparents.

The entire family posed in a picturesque sunflower field as dusk was beginning to settle. The most striking image features the three grown women and Butler’s young daughter all together, but the boys got involved in the photos, too. What resulted were portraits of a happy family whose love for one another is beautifully documented in these photographic keepsakes.

Snapping pictures of the group encouraged Frazier to reflect on why we should always attend these types of events—even if we’re feeling self-conscious. “This session got me thinking of how so many of us choose to skip (taking a) picture, we don’t like how we look, our outfits aren’t perfect and we just pick ourselves apart,” she tells My Modern Met. “But, we’re missing these moments and as you see with Brittney, she wishes she had done them sooner when her grandfather was still alive as well.”

This photoshoot is symbolic of the fleeting—and ultimately precious—nature of time. “Where you are at in life, right now, don’t waste any more time,” Frazier implores. “Don’t wait until you’re at the perfect weight, don’t worry about the perfect matching outfits, get your family together and the love you all share, get the pictures done. We never know what tomorrow brings.”
