STYLE GUIDE: CULOTTES

Los Culottes, son una de las principales tendencias para primavera, pero también una de las más complicadas.

Culottes, are one of the biggest trends for spring. Yet, one of the trickiest ones.

Esta es una tendencia que yo vi por primera vez en las calles y tiendas el verano pasado. La confirmé durante las diferentes semanas de la moda y ésta primavera se convierten en todo un imprescindible, que aunque no lo crean, es mucho más usable de lo que parece. Los culottes son esa mezcla entre una falda midi y unas bermudas. Son perfectos para los días de calor y es una muy buena opción para dejar a un lado los jeans o los pantalones aburridos y crear un look un poco más atrevido, ya sea para la oficina o para algún evento especialmente durante el día.

La verdad es que al principio si da un poco de miedo atreverte, porque si tienen su chiste y si no los usas bien pueden acortar bastante tu figura. Es por eso que decidí usarlos en un look monocromático para dar la idea de una sola pieza y alargar la figura. También puedes jugar mucho con tus proporciones y dependiendo de la parte de tu cuerpo que quieras resaltar usar prints o colores más claros y más obscuros y lisos en las que quieras que pasen desapercibidas. Con sneakers se ven increíbles, pero ahí si recomiendo que la altura no sea un problema para ti. Si no, con tacones y especialmente suecos ó tacones del mismo color del pantalón son lo ideal. Y combinados con una chamarra de piel es un look que nunca va a fallar. ¿Te atreves?

This is a trend that I saw for the very first time in stores and in the streets like a year ago. During the past Fashion Week season I confirmed it, and this spring it becomes an absolute essential, that believe it or not, it is more wearable that you thought. Culottes are the mix between a midi skirt and bermuda shorts. They are perfect for hot days and they are a very good choice to put aside jeans and boring pants, while creating a more daring look, wether it is for the office or for a special event (especially during the day). It is a very tricky trend that at the beginning can feel quite scary, and if you don’t balance them correctly, they can shorten you. That’s why I decided to wear a monochromatic look, to give the idea of a single piece and lengthen the figure. You can also play with proportions, and depending on a part of your body you can highlight you can wear lighter colors or prints and darker and solid colors in the parts that you want to cover. Culottes look amazing with sneakers, but only if height is not an issue for you. Otherwise, mules or heels the same color as the culottes are a great option. Last but not least, they look amazing with leather jackets, so if it’s not too hot outside, it is a look that’ll never fail. What do you say? Yay or nay to culottes?
