Basement Laundry Room: Slightly Better

The basement laundry room is definitely one of those spaces that will simply evolve over time. Although I do spend a lot of time down there it is just not an important enough room that I need to makeover quickly since no one really sees it but me. My plan is to make small changes here and there to make it a bit more cheerful and functional.
After searching Craigslist for a cabinet/buffet/dresser to put down here as a folding station I came across this three door tilt-out hamper from Home Decorators and I got so excited I quickly emailed the lady and picked it up that night. Although the ad did include the dimensions, I was kind of disappointed at how small it was and that my over-eagerness cost me money on a piece that didn't really work for the space. While I do like it, it is simply not big enough for the extra storage/folding surface I was hoping for. I am currently trying to sell it (any locals interested?) and looking for a replacement.

To cover up the chipping painted floors I used a larger rug I already owned as a base and layered on an inexpensive indoor/outdoor rug from Home Goods for a little color and pattern.

We're getting there. I really would like to paint the concrete floor but the chipping paint that's already there makes me nervous that my efforts would be in vain. Anyone ever painted a concrete floor with good results? Regardless of the floor, it's already much better than the yucky brown yellow junk room it used to be!
