November 2018 Amazon Prime Book Box Review

When you sign up, you fill out a little bit of information about your child and your frequency preferences. You’ll then get an email about Amazon’s selections for your child’s age range that month and you can swap and select the ones you want to receive.

Little Excavator by Anna Dewdney – Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.30)

My 3-year-old loves construction vehicles and dump trucks and excavators, so I knew he’d love this one. It’s made by the same creator as the Llama Llama books, so you know there’s lots of rhyming and it’s fun to read. The story is really nice, too: there’s a Little Excavator in the midst of a bunch of big rigs on a construction site. He tries to do things the big rigs do and can’t. Initially, he’s discouraged, but at the end, there’s a job that all of the big rigs are too big for and the Little Excavator gets his time to shine. I love how the story emphasizes that there’s value, work, and helpfulness in kids just the way they are now, even though it can be easy to get discouraged about being little.

Corduroy by Don Freeman – Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $16.14)

I chose this book because I remember loving it when I was a child. If you’re not familiar, it’s about a little bear in green corduroy overalls who lives in a department store. One day a girl wants to buy him, but her mom says no because he’s missing a button (he had no idea!). So, he spends the night exploring the store trying to find his missing button. The next day the girl comes back to buy him with her own money, takes him home, and sews a little button back on his overalls for him. It’s not a new book, but it’s Corduroy’s 50th anniversary, hence it’s inclusion in this month’s selection options. It’s a precious story the way it’s told. I’m absolutely happy to have a copy of one of my old favorites to share with my sons.

The Verdict: This was my first box from Amazon Prime Book Box for Kids! I chose the 3-5-year-old option for my 3-year-old. Sign me up for all the Amazon subscriptions! I know the books they offer will be quality selections with good ratings and I trust Amazon’s customer service if I have any issues. I also really love that I can swap out and select which two books to get each month. This really helps to make sure we get books I know we’ll like, and having new books to read has helped bedtime go much more smoothly. For $19.99 a month plus free Prime shipping, we received two book with a total value of $35.98.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? I’m not sure of exactly when Amazon swaps out their selection choices for the month, but if you sign up today it’s likely that you’ll get the selections for December.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $19.99, so you’re paying about $9.99 per book, which is about 55% retail list price for each of these books.
