How To Disappear

I recently found an article online entitled, "How to Disappear Completely."
I'm going to guess most readers find this article by clicking through a series of related articles, possibly progressing as follows:

"How To Cut Bangs"
"How to Unsend a Text"
"How to Fix Those Bangs You Cut"
"How to Disappear Completely"

I honestly don't remember how I found it, but I didn't cut bangs nor do I actually want to disappear completely. I had, however, just deleted a few social media accounts, so the timing was funny and the title was intriguing. If you're looking to make a swift escape, here are a few tips from the article to keep in mind:

Know that staging your own death or disappearance is a serious and potentially illegal act before you proceed.

If you're going rogue, potentially necessary items include a large backpack, warm clothes, waterproofs, sturdy shoes, a tent, a lightweight sleeping bag, maps, a compass, and a pocket knife.

Cultivate new habits. If you don't develop a completely new persona, you'll fall into the same patterns that made you want to flee in the first place.


Occasionally in life, no amount of introspection will bring resolution. In fact, you will get so tired of relentlessly dissecting your own motives, behavior, and mistakes that you will begin to crave real, radical change. Maybe you will look at your life and realize that you feel like absolute shit most of the time, and you don't really care why, you just want to feel better. You'll think of the people who count on and love you the most, and you will want to be better for them. You'll imagine your future in the current state of things and find that you want much, much more for yourself. You'll inevitably look at your past decisions and hate a lot of them, and you won't care why you made them anymore, you'll just want to stop.

So stop.
Pack some sturdy shoes, cultivate new habits, avoid old patterns and stage your own death.
Or disappear for a while. Or make some changes. It just depends on how committed you are I guess.
