Hoover Dam & Lake Mead, 2014

It took me long enough, right? This is the last post on our trip to the States late last year, and it has some of my favorite photos, if I’m being honest.

Part II |
Part III, you’re welcome

Our story begins where the last one I posted (pitifully, a couple of months ago, sorry) ended; so, we’re driving along from Red Rock Canyon to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and it’s amazing. I first heard of Hoover Dam from Pete and Pete and I can imagine how lame-o this may come across to all y’all Americans but you know, I’ve never been to anything quite like it. And it was amazing, and definitely a favorite new place we saw on this trip. I don’t even care—I AM A TOURIST.

We drove by this housing development where Celine Dion apparently lives or something, lol. It looks soooo good from far away, though.

Then, wow, we’re somehow in Arizona?! Hoover Dam, like, straddles Nevada and Arizona, apparently. So you can live out your A Walk to Remember fantasies if you’re ever around Hoover Dam and kill 2 birds with one stone. “Be in two places at once?” Check!

There’s something creepy about this whole environment. Very Area 51, if you know what I mean… and what I actually mean is, very Roswell. Just kidding. Kind of. Anyway, it’s pretty bone-dry because we went in the middle of a drought. Check out the people on the bridge for scale, though. This place was massive.

The white line’s where the water usually is, so this is actually pretty terrifying to see.

This one’s the view of the other side from across the street…

… and this is what it looks like when you’re actually on the other side. So, so pretty.

Turns out, it’s pretty freaking hot over there, so we ended up staying just for a few minutes—nothing really much to do except ogle everything—then we drove off to Lake Mead on the way back to our hosts’ house to have dinner (which was amazing, by the way).

Lake Mead was also, predictably, really pretty.

I don’t know, I guess I’m just in love with all of it. I don’t think you can blame me, to be honest.
