Viva Las Vegas: 2014

A short post on our mid-LA stint in Las Vegas last October. Every time I go there, I always have to ask myself: “What are we doing here?” We don’t gamble or watch a lot of shows (though I kind of wish we went to go see Britney Spears), but we do have some family in Vegas. We usually visit my dad’s side of the family, but this time around, we went to see some of my mom’s cousins too. We went around Nevada, which I will put in another post because American landscapes are just so beautiful sometimes.

On this trip, we also got to see a bit of the “old strip” in Fremont. It’s so disorienting, but pretty enjoyable in a weird way. I kind of feel this way about Las Vegas, in general. The place just does not seem real to me, at all!

The Fremont Street Experience

This is accessible by bus! It’s quite a different experience from the main strip, but it’s still full of people and a lot of dancing people with very little clothes on, and there were tons of children. It felt like fucking magic realism in a way that I haven’t decided to be good or bad. It is what it is.

That’s all for now! I really have very little feelings about Las Vegas, but I think my favorite part about it is how close it is to Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam. /tourist.

Oh, and I am a big, big fan of Hash House A Go Go’s chicken waffles. The waffles are not the best, but the fried leeks sold me. Still dreaming about you.
