Then he was four. (& a life update)

Harrison turned four snuggled close against me, warm under blankets with blonde hairs tickling my nose. I wish I could capture those moments forever when his little hands wrap around my arm & pull in closer to me, an unaware instinct that I am his safe place & comfort. I can’t imagine a moment in our lives together that more purely defines the natural pull of a baby to his momma & a momma to her baby. One day he will be too old for those moments & I’m glad they did not end at four.

Harry asked if I could make him a working Transformer costume for Halloween & I wondered what the hell my child was doing on Pinterest. I offered to buy a Batman costume because I have neither the time, talent, or inclination to make a working Transformer costume.

Homemade cupcakes for a birthday party? Sure. Homemade Halloween costume? No, thank you.

I feel like fall is sneaking past me, that feisty devil. This update comes to you from underneath a blanket on the living room loveseat, where the menfolk are upstairs sleeping because it’s early Saturday morning & I’m having a cup of coffee in the quiet. Maybe two cups if I feel wild. (Just kidding. I always have two cups of coffee.) It dipped below freezing last night & it’s nearing the end of October & we bought cotton candy at the North Carolina State Fair last night. I’m honestly not sure how that happened because it seems like last week I was trying to decide if spanx were too hot under my skirt.

Oh, wait. That was last week. North Carolina weather is weird.

Remember that time our fridge almost caught on fire? Turns out that old fridge had been unplugged while the house was on the market & it leaked all over the non-sealed peel & stick “tiles,” which means they are now literally peeling & even some sub-floor has seen better days. I’ve been in a stand-off with my kitchen floor for a solid year because we’re not ready financially to gut the kitchen but the floor needs to be done.

What I’d like to do is pick a tile that will coordinate well with the current black cabinets, but also go well with any white or cherry cabinets we pick in the future. It also needs to match the granite counter tops. & it has to be fitting to spread through the kitchen, half bath, & laundry/mud room.

Plus I have…how does it go? Champagne taste on a beer budget?

The good folks at Home Depot are starting to recognize my deer-in-the-headlights panic freeze that happens weekly in the tile aisle. They just leave me alone at this point, knowing that at some point I’ll just make an empty-handed run for it, promising I’ll make a decision next time.

Happy Saturday, friends on the Internet!

p.s. I taught Harry how to make moose ears & rabbit ears. I will probably regret this decision when it’s time to take a picture for our Christmas card.
